Mathematically Possible
This QuickQuestion Interface © is a little bit different to all the others. It generates 3 random numbers from 1 to 10, and you have to work out all the possible numbers that you can make using these three numbers once each, along with the four basic operations. It is based on an idea from 7puzzleblog.com, which is well worth a visit too.
Ideas for Teachers
This activity is a wonderful quick starter to get students thinking straight away. Students must come up with all the different ways to combine the 3 numbers to make as many numbers as they can in the given interval. You can also choose to use your own set of numbers, and can adjust the interval you want to use. If you want to use a set of numbers, but change the interval, then select to use your own numbers, before pressing the red button. If students are struggling then you can use the "HINT" button to tell them how many different numbers there are that are possible to make. Pressing the "Show Ways" button will give all the numbers that can be made, and students then just need to find the way to make each.
