Graph Transformations 5
In the Activity below we have drawn the graph of y = f(x) and y = f(dx) where d = 1 to start with.
Predict what will happen to the blue graph as we change the value of d.
Use the slider to adjust the value of d.
Describe in your own words what this function tranformation does.
When you have a good grasp of this, try the ultimate test with Graph Transformations 6.
Ideas for Teachers
Doing this at the front and asking them to predict what will happen first is essential. Ask them what will happen, and why they think that. Having seen Activity 4 they might be surprised (though the more astute will recall the same from Activities 1 and 2). Then give the students a chance to play with the activity, or show them what happens from the board. Once they have had a chance to work out what is happening, make sure you ask them to predict what a certain graph will look like.
