The Ultimate Challenge
This activity is taken from Mr Barton.
In the Activity below, the following transformations have taken place.
The blue square has been reflected in the purple line to give the purple square.
The purple square has been rotated by 90 degrees in a clockwise direction about the green point (1,1) to give the green square.
The green sqare has been enlarged by a scale factor of 2 from the orange point (3,6) to create the orange square.
The orange square has been translated by the red vector [3,5] to give the red square.
Now answer these questions. Try to answer first, using pen tool to mark the new positions, and then check by using the Activity.
If you move the purple line up one, where does the purple square end up? (move the purple point to do this)
If you move the green point left one, where does the green square move to?
If you move the orange point to the right by one, where does the orange square move to?
If you move the red corner of the blue square, which corner moves in each of the other squares?
If you move the blue square right one, in which direction, and by how much, does the red square move?
