Graph Transformations
In this section there are activities to discover the different ways of transforming the graph of a given function. It is a stepwise approach looking at each transformation individually, before putting them all together at the end. You can also download a set of resources for this, including a booklet for students, from the TES.
Investigate the transformations of the graph y = f(x) + b, and how this affects the graph of y = f(x).
Investigate the transformations of the graph y = f(x + a), and how this affects the graph of y = f(x).
Combine the two transformations above. Can you find the points?
Investigate the transformations of the graph y = cf(x), and how this affects the graph of y = f(x).
Investigate the transformations of the graph y = f(dx), and how this affects the graph of y = f(x).
Put everything you have learnt about graph transformations together in this activity, which combines all four transformations we have seen.
