Squares
In the activity below, points A and B were placed, and then the "Create Regular Shape" tool was used on these two points.
The polygon created is a 4 sided regular shape (that is a square).
Convince youself that it is indeed a square (click on a hint button for a little guidance if needed)
Once you are certain that it is a square, convince somebody else that it is a square.

If you are really struggling with seeing why the shape above is a square, then use the activity below. This is the same idea, but with one simplification which makes the whole activity a lot easier.
In this activity you also need to convince yourself that the shape is a square, and then convince somebody else.

Ideas for Teachers
Using lots of ideas from different areas of maths, the first of these activities gets the students to really think about what defines a square, and how you could show that something is a square. The second activity is a slightly easier version as the axes are in a 1:1 ratio. Put the activity up on the board as a starter (choose which depending on your class), and give them the clues as necessary. The clues are designed to make them think more deeply about the properties of a square.
This activity is very loosely based on the ideas from Square Coordinates by nrich, another very worthwhile activty for a class.
